Tenacious or...Trifling?

Ok, I have a friend, let's call her "Gretchen." She was determined to get the H1N1 (swine flu) shot, but it is currently only being given to pregnant women and children. Gretchen went to the hospital anyway and, when they asked her if she was pregnant? She said, "Yes." Gretchen is not pregnant.

Hey, at least she didn't dress up in Garanimals and carry a giant lollipop.

PlayBelle and I were working on a paper for school about media coverage. The research she found said the news does a poor job of disseminating important information. They've got an "if it bleeds, it leads" mentality that boosts ratings and scares the bejeesus out of people like Gretchen. The news would rather feature stories about the vaccine shortage and the 6 million new cases than report the facts.

Charlie Gibson scared the heck out of me, he said something about using caterpillars to make the vaccine instead of egg yolks. I said, "Oh, hell, no--I'm not getting a caterpillar swine flu shot!" even though I have no idea how vaccines are made. SMH.

So, in lying to get the vaccine, was Gretchen tenacious...or trifling?

This whole swine flu shortage of vaccines is suspect. Why report 24/7 the number of deaths, schools shutting down and alarming folks to get the shot, if there aren't enough shots to go around? I personally don't know of anyone who had gotten the swine flu. Sheer madness!

My vote is for trifling. Look, I understand that folks are scared but lying to get the shot is crazy. Unless she has some underlying health issues, she should have just washed her hands, took her cod liver oil and used good old fashioned common sense.

The thing is yes swine flu is real, I have known some folks who got it. But for most of us unless we have other issues we will get it and it will be a rough couple of weeks and life will go on.

Hi KellyBelle!

Shrewd
Paranoid
Dishonest

Not trifling though.

Trifling! Healthy adults are not at high risk for swine flu complications. There's a shortage of vaccine. By taking a shot, she took away protection that could have been used for someone at risk. I think its shameful.

As far as tv news media goes, it's all just entertainment now. They're all caught up in their swine flu narrative and that needs drama. So they scare fools who then run out and steal vaccines from babies. Shameless.

I realize I sound like a cranky old lady, but I've decided to just go ahead and embrace that piece of myself.
